Filing an insurance claim after a storm has ravaged your home is not as easy as some people think. Many homeowners imagine that they will simply receive a check in the mail after signing a couple of forms and answering a few questions but it is often more complicated than that. When it comes to making an insurance claim for storm damage repair, many problems may possibly arise and there is even a possibility that your claim could be completely denied.
In today’s post, Allstar Construction shares a few tips on how to properly communicate with an insurance adjuster to increase the likelihood of a successful insurance claim.
Tip #1: Always Be Polite and Professional
Filing for an insurance claim can be frustrating to say the least. An insurance company may act in bad faith by intentionally stalling, lowballing, or flat-out refusing to cover the cost of hiring professional roofing contractors to repair the damage. If this is the case, it is important to remember to always be polite and calm. By acting in a courteous and professional manner, you are more likely to strengthen your case.
Tip #2: Document Everything
This should go without saying. Not only should you document the damage on your home by taking photos, etc., but also any verbal and written communication you have previously had with an insurance adjuster. Be sure to write down the time and date of every phone conversation you have related to the claim and also the name of the person you were in contact with.
Tip #3: Speak to an Attorney
A lawyer can be a powerful ally to have when it comes to storm damage insurance claims. An attorney will understand how insurance providers operate and will be your best friend should your insurer fail to honor any agreements you might have previously made.
